One in fifty Americans turned out for No Kings 2, exercising their right to assemble in protest against attacks on our freedoms – especially Free Expression and the Right to Due Process – because they believe those attacks add up to a fascist power grab.
Is the hostile takeover of our government real or hype? How does it matter?
We've invited Washtenaw County Court Attorney Teresa Killeen, a Manchester resident, to provide a broad, nonpartisan perspective on the state of free expression, specifically. Her presentation will cover the fundamentals of the free speech rights granted by the First Amendment; how it has historically been interpreted; its status under the current administration; and the circumstances that would constitute legal grounds for suspending it.
And we're inviting all area residents, of all political perspectives, to bring tough questions for a Q&A to follow the presentation.
Attend in person if you can, but if not, you can attend online via Zoom (in-person attendees will not be visible to online viewers, and the session will not be recorded).
Democracy is a conversation, and refreshments will be served!
