Manchester Talks about Free Expression! with Teresa Killeen
NEW! To attend via Zoom, please register at tinyurl.com/manchestertalks
One in fifty Americans turned out for No Kings 2, exercising their right to assemble in protest against attacks on our freedoms – especially Free Expression and the Right to Due Process – because they believe those attacks add up to a fascist power grab.
Is the hostile takeover of our government real or hype? How does it matter?
We've invited Washtenaw County Court Attorney Teresa Killeen, a Manchester resident, to provide a broad, nonpartisan perspective on the state of free expression, specifically. Her presentation will cover the fundamentals of the free speech rights granted by the First Amendment; how it has historically been interpreted; its status under the current administration; and the circumstances that would constitute legal grounds for suspending it.
And we're inviting all area residents, of all political perspectives, to bring tough questions for a Q & A to follow the presentation.
Attend in person if you can, but if not you can attend online via Zoom (in-person attendees will not be visible to online viewers, and the session will not be recorded).
Democracy is a conversation and refreshments will be served!
Spilling the Tea with Breeda Kelly Miller
Breeda will share how Mrs. Kelly’s Journey Home—her one-woman show, book, and PBS special—came to life from her porch in Manchester. Drawing on her caregiving experience, she’ll discuss ideas about using art to support, educate, and inspire others while raising funds for meaningful causes.
After her talk, enjoy refreshments and stay for a Manchester Voices Indivisible meeting with an overview for new and curious members. All are welcome!
